A secure password hard to crack!

Don’t take “easy” passwords. In the list of 38 million passwords, these are the 5 most commonly used. Is your password like any of the below? Change it now!

  • 123456

  • password
  • admin

Choose a password with a mix of numbers, letters and symbols (e.g. 1,$,#,%).

Also choose a password that has NO special meaning for you, e.g. , your dog’s name, date of birth, address, names of family members, etc.

Use a different password for every account you have. IK know, this is annoying, but it will serve you well if one of your accounts gets hacked. Different passwords assure you that your other accounts remain safe.

Don’t use a word you can find in the dictionary. In a word, you can replace the i’s with 1 or the o’s with 0.

Use a password of at least 8 characters

Use a virtual keyboard to enter your passwords. A virtual keyboard cannot be intercepted by a keylogger programme

Use a string of random words, see xkcd, still easy to remember.

Use a password programme such as KeepassLastpass, or 1Password.. These programmes make it easy for you to keep track of passwords. You then only need to remember that one password for your password programme.

What tricks do you use to choose a password? Were any of your passwords on the list of most used passwords? Share this post with friends and family to make sure their online data stays safe too.
